Biography

Malcolm Sewell

Born 1959
Newcastle Upon Tyne
England
Attended Newcastle College of Arts & Technology (photography) 1981

The photographs on display are from my most recent personal work, an ongoing series of photographs of flowers and plants in black and white. Most of the black and white photographs are taken on a large format camera with polaroid type 55 positive negative film.
In these photographs I hope to convey the architectural beauty of the blooms and the plants I photographs and to find ways to express their vulnerability/delicacy & strength. (Although I admit I rarely ‘garden’ and I quite often have to look up the names of the plants and flowers.

Each black and white photograph is hand printed on silver gelatin fibre based paper and toned in either selenium or sepia, or ‘split’ toned in both ensuring the photographic prints longevity and giving depth to the images.
